Sunny Day Roses: Bloomshine!
In an era of tortured and/or angry female rock vocalists, [Suki]
Chaney comes across like a rush of pure ocean air. But what
really makes Sunny Day Roses interesting are
their sometimes challenging arrangements and wide palette of
musical influences. There are Latin, Asian, blues, progressive rock,
and funk elements that arise on their new 70-minute CD called
Bloomshine! When songs aren't vying for pop airplay,
they are prone to take sudden side turns into pleasantly unexpected
musical territory. The flamenco-spiced guitars on the track
Bloom and the bluesy slide guitars on the atypically
solemn Dig are two examples where the band's
instrumental versatility is highlighted.
