What Kind of Band is This?

Sunny Day Roses began as modern rock band with progressive, alternative pop, world beat, funk, and jazz influences. The band's bLOOMsHINe! disc carries this sound.

Sunny Day Roses' sound has both evolved and streamlined. Newer material is focused, guitar driven and immediate. The songs have bigger hooks, in the pop sense. SDR makes its prog influences much less obvious, while retaining the finer points of that style of band interaction. The jazz and funk influences of bLOOMsHINe! are only hinted at now, but the lessons learned while working through those styles allow SDR to put a lot of color and a fresh spin on modern rock. Janet Lund's voice soars over the top of it all, leading a combination that stresses melody, emotion, impact, and heart.

News

"Pop," from bLOOMsHINe!, was featured in the Paul Tarantino film Courting Courtney. The film went into limited North American release in 1998, and aired many times in 1999 on the Sundance Channel.

Sunny Day Roses plans to record a six-song EP compact disc in the near future. The song titles are:

  • Silver
  • Birdman
  • High Tide
  • Sentimental Noise
  • Tender & True
  • Chaos

We'll also have some loop and sample tracks (used in the live shows) to fill out the program, with titles such as:

  • Thundercrix
  • Alice Acid
  • $6MDM

In August of '96, our original (bLOOMsHINe!) singer and dear friend Suki Chaney retired from SDR in order to start a family. She and her husband recently had their first child, Alexander Chaney.

Janet Lund took over the frontwoman helm, and had a tremendous impact on the band. The new material is different, in a very good way.
