Monkey Mind

Monkey Mind, according to Nat Goldberg, is the counterpart and nemesis of Wild Mind. The former is the editor/critic/censor, while the latter is where we live, and where we need to write, out from under the tyranny of the former.

I'm fairly good at stream of consciousness writing for some things, at free association, at letting certain ideas run from wherever they spawn within my soul onto the paper. With other types of ideas, though, Monkey Mind is always there, regulating, throttling, strangling, marshalling. So I took Monkey Mind out into the wilderness and shot it. Left it there for the vultures. Oh, it'll be back, but less in control, and we'll go through this a few times until we reach a reasonable balance. This, then, is a requiem for Monkey Mind.

In the meantime, I've let Wild Mind loose in a few areas it hasn't been loose in before. Deep places in the crevasses of the ocean of my mind. Emotions. Beliefs. Hurts. In a more primal way than before.

Welcome, if you will, to... not my nightmares, not my daydreams... to the thoughts and dreams that see me in their nightmares and daydreams.

This book will grow and evolve over time, as did My Screws Aren't Loose, I'm Just Wired Different.
